Activities that help reverse educator burnout.
I know you are passionate, otherwise you wouldn't have joined the field of education.
But education has changed, it's okay to love your students. It's great that you love your job.
But your JOB is not your LIFE.
Your job provides you income to live your life.
I used to equate my outcomes/opinions of myself as a teacher to my REAL SELF.
That's not healthy.
You can be a great person, and a horrible teacher....
or.
A horrible person and a great instructional coach.
The moral of the story is this: stop putting pressure on your job to have a fulfilling life. You are not your job.
What you need are activities to enjoy outside of your profession. The demands of education are growing and your to-do list never ends. But....
YOU CAN'T POUR FROM EMPTY CUP. Cultivate the work-life balance you deserve.
Here are a couple of ideas to get you started on finding non-education related activities to enjoy outside of work:
1. Social activities- you can join social clubs, book clubs, or any club that gauges your interests. Many groups are meeting online so take advantage.
2. Physical activities- to keep you strong and healthy. You already have the gym membership, just go.
3. Financial activities- start a business or side hustle that brings you income. You can have padded pockets and a full heart.
Let me know what you do outside of work to manage a work-life balance in the comments.
